Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the iPhone app Speaker Rescue: Water Eject (the "app") handles and why. The app is provided by Denis Salaev ("we", "us"). We kept it short and plain on purpose. If anything is unclear, write to us (see section 11).
The short version
- No account, no sign-in, no ads, no tracking, and we do not sell your data.
- Sound picked up by your microphone is analyzed on your iPhone and is never saved, stored or sent anywhere.
- Your history (cleanings, sound checks, noise logs) stays on your iPhone.
- Only two things leave your device: your purchase status (through Apple and RevenueCat) and anonymous usage statistics (through PostHog, EU).
1. What we collect
We collect the minimum needed to run the app, handle purchases and make the app better.
- On your iPhone only: your history, results and settings (section 2).
- An anonymous install ID: a random code the app creates on first launch and keeps in the iOS Keychain. It is not linked to your name, email address or Apple Account. It identifies your installation to RevenueCat and PostHog.
- Purchase information: subscription and purchase status (section 4).
- Usage analytics: which screens and features are used (section 5).
- Messages you send us: if you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to reply and to handle your request.
We do not collect your name, email address (unless you write to us), phone number, contacts, location, health data, advertising identifier (IDFA) or the content of your photo library. There is no account.
2. What stays on your iPhone
The app saves the following only in its private storage on your iPhone:
- your cleaning history: date, length, mode (water or dust), which speaker you chose, and whether the session was finished;
- sound check results: sound levels, a frequency spectrum, and a short verdict (for example "clearer", "no change" or "inconclusive");
- Noise Log recordings: sound levels in decibels over time, with minimum, average, maximum and peaks;
- your progress in the 7-day program, and your settings (theme, reminders, hints you dismissed).
Widgets, the Lock Screen control, shortcuts and the Live Activity read this same on-device data. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else. Your iPhone's own backup (iCloud or a computer) may include app data, depending on your iOS settings; that is between you and Apple.
3. Microphone, camera, photos and notifications
Microphone
The app asks for microphone access the first time you run a sound check, not before. It uses the microphone to measure sound levels, to compare the sound of your speaker before and after a cleaning, to run the microphone test, and for Noise Log (which can keep running while the screen is locked; iOS shows its microphone indicator while it does). Audio is analyzed live on your iPhone and discarded right away. We never save, upload or listen to it. The microphone test is the only exception to "live only": it keeps a 3-second clip in memory, plays it back to you once and then discards it; it is never written to storage. Only numbers (decibel levels, a frequency spectrum and a verdict) are kept, on your iPhone. You can decline; cleaning still works, you just will not get the before and after check. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
Camera
The camera is used only by dB Camera, which takes a photo with a sound level reading, the date and the app's name on it. The app does not keep these photos. After you take one, it is up to you to share it or save it. We never receive it.
Photos
If you choose to save a dB Camera picture to your photo library, iOS may ask permission to add photos. The app only adds the picture you chose. It does not read, browse or upload your library.
Notifications
Reminders (a weekly sound check and the 7-day program reminder) are optional and off by default. They are scheduled on your iPhone itself and do not involve a server.
4. Purchases (Apple and RevenueCat)
Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card or payment details, and we do not receive your name or Apple Account email address.
To manage subscriptions and the lifetime purchase we use RevenueCat, a service that verifies App Store purchases. RevenueCat receives the anonymous install ID (used as an anonymous app user ID), your purchase receipt and transactions, the product bought, subscription status and dates, whether you are entitled to the paid features, your store country, basic device and app information (such as iOS and app version), and your IP address, as with any internet request. We use it to unlock features, restore your purchases and see subscription numbers. It is not used for advertising. See the RevenueCat privacy policy. RevenueCat is based in the United States, so this data may be processed there.
5. Analytics (PostHog, EU)
We use PostHog, hosted in the European Union, to understand how the app is used and to fix problems.
What is sent: events such as: app opened; onboarding steps viewed; paywall viewed or closed; purchase started, completed or failed (with the plan); cleaning started, completed or cancelled (with mode, speaker and length); the result of a sound check (verdict and level change); microphone prompt shown, allowed or declined; which tools and tips you open; widget and shortcut use; and technical error reports. Each event carries the anonymous install ID, whether you are subscribed and which plan, your install date, the app language and region, and device and app version. Like any internet service, PostHog also technically receives your IP address when the app sends an event.
What is never sent: audio, Noise Log readings, photos, your name or email address, an advertising identifier, your location or your contacts.
Why: to find bugs, see which features help people, and improve onboarding and pricing. If you are in the EEA or the UK, our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running and improving the app.
How to opt out: an in-app switch is planned for a future version. Until then, email us (section 11) and we will turn off analytics for your installation and delete the analytics data held for it. See the PostHog privacy policy.
6. No ads, no tracking
The app has no ads and no advertising SDKs. It does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and it does not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context advertising. We share data only with the service providers named above, to the extent described here, and when the law requires it.
7. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. How long we keep data, and how to delete it
- On your iPhone: until you delete the app. Deleting the app removes your history, results and settings from the device. The anonymous install ID in the Keychain may remain and be reused if you reinstall the app; it is a random code with no personal information.
- RevenueCat: purchase and subscription records are kept as long as needed to provide your access and to meet legal, tax and accounting duties. Apple also keeps its own purchase records, which we cannot change.
- PostHog: analytics events are kept for as long as they are useful for improving the app, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Emails to us: kept only as long as needed to handle your request and to keep a record of it.
To have your RevenueCat and PostHog data deleted, email us (section 11). Because there are no accounts, we can only find data linked to your anonymous install ID, so we may ask you for it and will tell you how to find it. Some purchase records may have to be kept where the law requires.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us to: tell you what data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict its use, give you a copy in a portable format, stop using it for analytics, or withdraw consent you have given. If you are in the EEA or the UK you can also complain to your local data protection authority. If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, you can ask to know, correct and delete your information, and you will not be treated differently for doing so. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of there.
To make a request, email us (section 11). It is free. We may need to confirm that the data is yours, and we will reply within one month, or sooner if the law requires. You may also use an authorized agent.
10. Security and data transfers
Data sent to RevenueCat and PostHog travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and data on your iPhone is protected by iOS. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. These providers may process data outside your country; where the law requires it, they rely on legal transfer safeguards described in their own privacy policies.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy, for example when the app gets new features. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is important, we will say so in the app or on this page.
